Music Share is a chance for students to present a short (under 2 minutes) presentation and practice performing before a familiar audience with confidence. Usually it is a musical performance (ie. singing, piano, instrument in the classroom – at the discretion of Mrs. Lim-, a song and dance (Parents can provide a link for me if necessary), or just a dance.) However, I have also allowed students to choose to present a joke or something that requires standing up in front of the audience and speaking (eg. poetry recitation).
If a student feels too much pressure and does not want to share, he/she can “pass”. Music share is not for marks and is an optional activity, but I highly recommend students take the opportunity to perform something short. We have them curtsey/bow to resounding applause from the class; it is a great confidence booster! As well, our classroom benefits from practicing our “concert audience” posture and behaviour.
