Tuesday, May 31

Today we began a math measurement project. Each student is making a snake for measuring objects in the classroom that are longer, shorter and the same as their snake. Later we will measure objects outside.

Thank you for sending in those toothbrushes - we could use a few more for our art project. If you have any scraps of fabric that would look nice as a 'rug' for our Father's Day card please send it in.
Please let Cassie or myself know if you are available for a shift for classroom clean - up. This is a courtesy clean that we do every year for our new Kindergarten students. Our school dishwasher that we usually use for the cleaning of larger manipulative i.e.: Lego is not working well enough for this job. If you are willing to take some of these items home to clean, please let me know so that we can arrange a date. Thank you ever so much for your ongoing support!

Tuesday, May 24

I hope you enjoyed a restful and fun weekend!
Tomorrow, May 25 is our Field Trip to the Calgary Zoo!
If you have a zoo pass, please send it to school with your child and volunteers should bring their zoo passes as well. I have pre-ordered our zoo admission tickets for our students and chaperones. Upon arrival at the zoo, I will pick up our tickets and we will proceed as a group to the entry turnstiles.
For our volunteers, I will have our schedule for the day, map of the zoo, my contact information and your group information ready for you. Prior to boarding the bus for the zoo, we will have a quick meeting about our trip to the zoo. Just a heads up that each student will be carrying and using a clipboard for recording their trip information (letter scavenger hunt and sketching).

Here is a reminder of previous information that was sent home.

All Kindergarten children and volunteers are to arrive at school at 8:40 am dressed for the weather of the day, including shoes/boots that will be comfortable for walking.  Each child will need to bring in his/her backpack a snack, two drinks, and a lunch that requires no heating (no nut products please).  Our day will end back at the school at approximately 2:15 pm. By extending our day we will have more time to experience the activities planned.

We are looking forward to tomorrow!

Tuesday, May 17

Today, thanks to 'Agrium' we learned all about seeds and crops in Alberta. Each student planted 2 sunflower seeds for you to grow at home. Please place your sunflower seeds near a window and give your plant 1 tablespoon of water per day. I will be growing my sunflower seeds at school to document and compare our seed growth.

This message is a reminder that the annual Book Fair is scheduled for this Wednesday during the school day starting at 10 am.  Books are 25 cents each.  Students will be paraded through the library to shop for age appropriate books.   Parents, feel free to pop by to browse as there are plenty of books for you, too.  The book fair is still accepting books until tomorrow.  For each $60 raised we will again purchase a Plan Canada “Library in a Box” for a school in an area of greatest need. Each box is packed with enough books to help children read and learn and re-imagine what their country can be.

Thank you for returning your Zoo Field Trip paperwork!
