100th Day of Kindergarten

Today, we shared our 100th Day projects with our fellow Dr. Coffin students. Everyone enjoyed the creative and excellent projects. The kindergarten students demonstrated their learning for 40 minutes! If you would like to view our projects, you are welcome to come in either before or after school. They are displayed outside the Kindergarten classroom.
This is our last week of gymnastics. This is by far one of our favorite gym units. A special 'Thank-You' goes out to the Millennium program for setting up our gymnastics equipment for us.

Jack and the Bean Stock

Gymnastics is so much fun! All of the equipment is out, including the climbing wall.
Today we read 'Jack and the Bean Stock'. For our literacy work, we are planning on reading some more Fairytales.
We have begun planting our Little Green Thumbs garden. Today, we direct planted some Purple Peacock Beans into a garden box. We learned all about our soil, fertilizer, planting/measuring where the seeds need to be placed, trellis, watering system and our grow light. We will be watching for our bean sprouts, which should germinate by next Wednesday or Thursday.
Later this week, we will continue to plant some more seeds. Stay tuned for more details!
Tomorrow, is our 'Anti- Bully Day'. In support of this special day,  please wear pink. No worries, if you do not have any pink clothes for your child. I will have some pink hearts for them to wear.
Next Monday, is our 100th Day of School. Please remember to send your child's project in. In order to share our projects, we will display them on the tables in the Learning Commons.
Thank-you!

Friendship Week

Thank-you for joining us on Friday, for our drumming performance. We learned so much about patterns, sequencing and the African drumming culture. We are so proud of our young drummers!

Our letter of the week sharing continues to be the highlight of our week. While our students share their letter object, we are drawing and sounding out words on our mini white boards. Perhaps, you could sound out and write our letter of the week words at home.

Tomorrow, is our Friendship party. We are looking forward to exchanging our Valentines, and enjoying some math and literacy centers. Of course, we will enjoy a special, nut free snack.

This week, our gymnastics unit includes some very exciting equipment. If anyone is available to volunteer, on Wednesday, Feb. 15, please let Mrs. Wilkens know via email.

Feb. 16 & 17 there are no classes for students. It's time for Teacher Convention.

Enjoy your very, long weekend. We are looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday, February 21.

Special Dates for February

During the week of February 6 to 10, One World Drumming will be our very, special activity. Our school Drumming  performance is on Friday, February 10 from 10:45 to 11:30 AM. You are welcome to join us in our gym for this performance. Kindergarten will be performing first at 10:45 AM. In order to accommodate this performance, our Kindergarten class will end  at 11:30 AM.  However, just let me know via email if you need to pick up your child at the scheduled time of 11:20 AM.

On Tuesday, February 14, there will be a small Valentine’s Day (Friendship Day) celebration in our classroom, which will include a special snack.  Children are invited to print their names on 24 Valentine cards and to bring them to school on February 14, to share with their classmates.  Please do not address cards or envelopes to individual children. Also, please send only a water bottle to school with your child on this day (no snack).

On Monday, February 27, we will be celebrating the 100th day of Kindergarten for the 2016-2017 school year. Kindergarten children are invited to bring in “A Creation” that involves using 100 items (beans, toothpicks, stickers, buttons, pennies, beads noodles, Lego etc.).  This family project could involve making a pattern with colored buttons glued onto paper, creating a picture with noodles or building a structure with toothpicks and marshmallows or Lego. If you have a collection of 100 special things that would be a great sharing idea as well!  Please note that we will be sharing our projects in the Learning Commons with our buddies. Use your imagination and have fun!

On Wednesday, March 1, we will have our Letter L sharing.
