Friday, October 28

Today we sorted the fall artifacts that we scavenged for last week. Everyone was able to tell us their sorting rules. Over the next few weeks, we will be working on our sorting rule vocabulary and practicing our sorting skills. Our next step, was a trip outside to find seeds. In Wiispering Woods, we played our 'Camouflage' game which is a type of 'Hide and Seek'. We had so much fun!!!!

  • On Monday, October 31 the Kindergarten class will be having a Pumpkin Party. We have some exciting pumpkin activities planned for our special day. This year, our students will be decorating a cookie and enjoying some healthy party food. Students are welcome to come in costume, but please keep it practical for the school environment. No weapons of any sort, please!
  • For many children, Halloween is a special celebration. However, we recognize that not all parents are supportive of this event. At Dr. E. W. Coffin School, our Halloween dress-up celebration for children is OPTIONAL. For those children who choose to dress-up, the following are our expectations; Students may dress-up in:
                        - ‘Regular’ non-violent Halloween costume,
                        - Costume that represents a character from one of their favorite novels, or
                        - Orange and/or black clothing

No letter of the week and please return you library books by Tuesday morning.

Picture Orders are due on November 4. Please watch for Mrs. Rennie's 'Worth Mentioning' emails for further details.

Thank-you volunteers for your contributing to our party and classroom volunteering!

Marty Chan Book Orders

Marty Chan, book order forms and payment are due back to Mrs. Kidd, our school librarian, on Thursday, Oct 27.  Thanks!

Tuesday, Oct 25

Our letter 'Ii' letter and sound work is progressing nicely. As this is a vowel, practice in sounding out this letter sound will be important. Please do not worry if the short and long vowel sounds do not 'gel' just yet. Exposure and practice of reading and hearing their letters and sounds is very important.

Tomorrow, we are carving and studying the parts of a pumpkin. We will have Jack - O - Lanterns for our party. Thank-you for your support for our Pumpkin Party. Please continue to contact Amy about your contributions.

Pumpkin Party - Monday, October 31 - Please arrive at school in costume and do not send a snack. We are decorating cookies (allergy friendly) and enjoying party food that is also healthy and allergy friendly.

We enjoyed a great day! Thank you for returning your library books and sending in your child's zip lock bags with their pictures. Tomorrow, from 9 AM to 9:45 AM we have a visiting author, Marty Chan. This is the visit that we won through the YABS – Young Alberta Book Society who organizes Trailblazers annual literary Arts Festival that takes place annually in the fall throughout Alberta.

If you would like to volunteer, you are welcome to email either our room parent Amy, or myself and we will add you to our volunteer calendar. We are very thankful for having our wonderful volunteers in our classroom!

Monday, October 17

Tuesday, October 18 is Treat Day. Please send 25 cents to school for your child to purchase a treat. If you forget, your child will still get a treat. Please remember to send in your 25 cents by the end of the week. There will be some peanut free options to choose from. Treat Day occurs on a monthly basis where each class takes a turn in bringing in and selling the treats. All funds raised, are for the class that sponsors the treat day. Kindergarten's treat day will likely be in May.

For our Collage project, you can download pictures and cut them to size. This project is also for our students to practice their scissor skills. On Wednesday, we will start our projects in small groups.
