Wednesday, Dec. 14

Today, we enjoyed a really fun and busy morning. After we sang Christmas carols with everyone, we returned to our classroom for some painting, patterning and math games. Thanks to our parent volunteers, our 'snack' was really yummy. We ate some apples, carrots, Wagon Wheels and homemade cookies!  Thank you so much for your time and generous food choices.

Due to our festive activities, we did not have our usual book exchange. We will resume this in the New Year.

For our Winter Sports Day on Friday, Dec. 16 please send your child dressed for the weather. Kindergarten will be be dismissed at 11:20 AM, their usual time. If it is too cold for this event, Mrs. Rennie will either email you and teacher blogs will advise you  as to whether we are proceeding with this event.

Enjoy a restful and happy Christmas Holiday with your family and friends. I am truly blessed and very grateful to have such a wonderful group of Kindergarten students and families to work with.

Friday, December 9

We enjoyed a truly magical and yummy morning decorating our candy houses! Our students demonstrated amazing perseverance and focus planning and decorating their houses. At one point during our morning, they broke into song singing 'Jingle Bells'. A big 'Thank You' goes out to our parent volunteers who built our candy houses and assisted us today with our decorating.

Next week we are not studying a letter of the week. We have many festive crafts and games planned for our students. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings you are welcome to join us for caroling. Caroling is from 9:00AM to 9:30 AM.

On Tuesday morning, we are making Christmas cards with our buddies for clients of 'The Mustard Seed'.

Wednesday is our Class Tinsel Party. Please do not send any snack for your child as we will have healthy party food available for your child to enjoy. We are planning on having one sweet treat to decorate. Please wear your favorite sparkly outfit or use tinsel to add some sparkle to our morning.

Please watch for the 'Worth Mentioning' email from Mrs. Rennie for further detail  about our Winter Sports Day - Friday December, 16.

Thank you very much for all of your support.

Upcoming Christmas Activities

Letter of the week sharing

On Friday, December 9th we will be decorating graham cracker, candy houses. Due to allergies, we are asking each family to send a SMALL, labeled bag of assorted candies, cereal, raisins etc. for your own child to use. Kindergarten will provide the plates, graham crackers and special icing. I will have decorations available to share, such as mini marshmallows (snow), mini candy canes and Smarties.

In Calgary, our fall/winter season has arrived. We would like to remind parents to ensure that their children are dressed appropriately for colder weather.  Warmer jacket, socks, boots, toques and gloves will be necessary to accommodate the upcoming colder temperatures. Please ensure that all of your child’s clothing and footwear is labeled with their name. If we declare it a ‘Blue Day’ where the temperature and wind chill are below -18 degrees C, the Kindergarten students are welcome to wait in the gym for their school day to begin.

Tuesday, December 13 is our next treat day. Please send 25¢ in with your child to purchase a treat. I do have allergy friendly treats for our students that have food allergies.
On Wednesday, December 14th we are having our Winter Party. On party day, please do not send a snack or drink to school. The students will be provided with a healthy snack, drink and craft activity to enjoy. In addition we are having a Tinsel Day, so please feel free to dress or accessorize in something sparkly!

On Friday, December 16th for our Fresh Air Friday activity, we are planning on a 'Winter Sports Day'. Please ensure that on a daily basis, your child is dressed for the weather. Sometimes, we enjoy our learning outside and we would appreciate it if your child is dressed for all of our weather scenarios.

A very big 'Thank-you' to all of our volunteers who share their time with us in the classroom, making Play Dough and contributing to our special events. You're the best!
