Monday, May 29 Zoo Field Trip

Only two more sleeps until our field trip to the Calgary Zoo!
If your child carries an Epipen or any other  medication in their backpack, please check that it is up to date and in place for our field trip.
Don't forget to put on your child's sunscreen prior to coming to school. Please ensure that they are dressed for our ever changing Calgary weather! Even if the forecast continues to be a sunny and warm day, please put a light jacket in your child's backpack. Hats and/or sunglasses are important for protecting your child from the sun.
We are looking forward to our wonderful day, that includes ice cream!

Friday, May 26

This morning we labeled a flower and a tree diagram. Afterwards we played a fun 'Hide and Seek' game in Whispering Woods.
This morning we discussed what we would like to do with the money raised from our Plant Sale.
Here is the list we generated:

Plant Sale Money$372.00L.G.T. Program donation of 100 to 200 dollarsIce cream at the zooDonation for the playgroundPet rabbit for the classroomMake Dr. Coffin School biggerAdopt an animal at the zoo

I said I would discuss with Mrs. Polski about our options for 'making the school bigger' and " donating towards our new playground'.  Everyone was very willing to take turns taking care of a rabbit on the weekends and over the summer! I suggested that taking care of a rabbit, is a good question to ask their families. We decided to think about what we would like to do with the money over the weekend. On Monday, we will discuss it further and vote on it.

I do appreciate your prompt return of the Kindergarten Field Trip paperwork!
Enjoy the sunshine!

Thursday, May 26

Today, your paperwork for our upcoming field trip was sent home. Please complete the forms and return to me by Monday, May 29. I will need a day prior to our trip to the Calgary Zoo, to make sure our paperwork is in order.
Tomorrow is FAF, and we are planning on going outside to investigate the similarities and differences between flowers and trees.
We have completed our sketching of flowers, like a 'Biologist' would do. Please have a look at 'Austin's Butterfly',  https://vimeo.com/38247060 to discover what our editing process was. We added some watercolors to our sketches and you are welcome to come into school to check them out. I think they are magnificent!

Monday, May 16 - Book Fair and Exchange

Tomorrow, is our book fair. Each book will cost 25 cents, and the children are more than welcome to buy more than one book. We are scheduled to attend the book fair with our room 5 buddies, from 10:45 to 11:10 AM.

Mrs. Kidd is taking a very detailed inventory of our books at Dr. Coffin. Therefore, this week is the last week of book exchange check-out.  Next week is check-in only.

Thank you for supporting our Kindergarten Plant Sale.  I am so very proud of everyone's knowledge about our plants and their patience while we set up for the sale and sold our plants.
We raised 365 dollars! Stay tunes to find out what we decide to do with some of the money. We will keep in mind that we should maintain a balance of funds to support our L.G.T. program.

Finally, our parent volunteers are amazing!

Friday, May 12 - LGT Plant Sale

Wow! Our plant sale was a huge success! I am so proud of our Kindergarten students for learning about and taking such good care of our plants. They learned all about our different plants and they were able to be 'Plant Sale Hosts' to explain what types of plants we had grown in our classroom.
Each and every student worked on our plant information cards, and assisted in setting up for our sale.
I appreciated their patience as they waited for their turn to be 'Plant Sale Hosts'.
Thank -you for buying our plants and our volunteers ongoing support.
Our room parent Amy, also did a terrific job in assisting with the planning for our plant sale and acting as our cashier for the event.
I am so very grateful, for everyones ongoing support of the Kindergarten program.

As a reminder, children are eligible to participate in the Eye
See ... Eye Learn® program until they begin Grade one.
Through Eye See...Eye Learn®, Doctors of Optometry detect,
diagnose and treat eye health problems in children as they
enter the school system. Alberta Health Care already covers
the cost of comprehensive eye exams for all children in the
province. This program takes that one step further by
providing free eyeglasses to Kindergarten children who need
a prescription.

Friday, May 5

We enjoyed a fantastic F.A.F! We found some new and changing evidence of spring. More ladybugs were enthusiastically collected for our indoor garden. Afterwards, we documented our findings in our L.G.T. journals. We drew detailed pictures, labelled them, and  some of us wrote a sentence about our findings. I'm so proud of all of my student's amazing work!
Our 3D construction has begun.  We work in groups of 2 or 3 to build a structure with Lego, that will support a 3D shape and an incline to roll a marble down.  It's very interesting to observe and facilitate their problem solving and cooperation skills.
Thank you for sending in your spare pots for our plants!

Yesterday, we went outside to find some lady bugs for our indoor garden. We found some and we are hoping that they will help us with eating our Aphid population.
