As everyone will need to wait a little longer for their snack, a hearty breakfast would be appreciated. I will try to do the same.

If you have your child's red duo tang at home, please return it this week. We sent some of our student's 'Letter of the Week' duo tangs home for students to catch up on their work.

Tuesday, February 12

Tomorrow, along with our Friendship Party,💓💖💗 and Valentine's Day Card exchange, we are having a 'Unicorn Day'. Students are welcome to wear an article of clothing that has a Unicorn on it, or bright colors. Another option would be to wear something red or pink.
On Tuesday, February 19, we are looking forward to celebrating our 100th day of Kindergarten. When you bring your projects to school, please put them on the tables in the Learning Commons. Mrs. J and myself, will try to meet you at the door to assist with getting them into the school safely.
We would like to keep your projects at school for a few days.
Please consider joining us on Thursday, February 21 for our Numeracy evening.
Enjoy your extra long weekend with your family, and friends.
Thank-you so very much for your ongoing support.

Friday, February 8 - FAF and Next Week

Today, we went for our Winter Walk. During our walk, we observed a Magpie foraging, and a mouse tunnel in the snow. We admired the Magpie's tracks in the snow.
Next week, we do not have a letter of the week. Instead, we will focus on some friendship activities.

On Wednesday, February 13, there will be a Valentine's Day (Friendship Day) celebration in our classroom. Along with the distribution of their Valentines Day Cards, we will have some fun activities, and a special snack. On February 13, student's are invited to print their names on 20 Valentine's Day Cards and bring them to school. Please do not address cards or envelopes to individual children. Also, please send to school only one snack and their water bottle with your child. I will be providing the snack/treat for our friendship celebration. Valentine's Day is always a lot of fun!💟

Thursday, February 7 - What is Winter?

Last week we began our inquiry project  - What is Winter?
We have discussed, and shared our ideas of what the season of winter means for Kindergarten students. Since most students truly believe that winter means Christmas, our discussions are rather cute! Through our FAF walks, we have looked at the trees, tree trunks, and branches. Using our observations, we are creating a multimedia, winter tree, art project. Our tree trunks are colored with crayons. This week, we are learning about cool and warm colors. Using watercolor paints, special brushes, and paper we have practiced painting in cool colors a watercolor picture. Next, we are painting (with our newly honed skills😉) the background of our pictures in cool colors. Tomorrow, we are planning on taking our winter observations further and adding some 3D snow (cotton balls) and snowflakes. As a follow-up to Randy Bottle's story about winter animals, I am reading the book, 'Over and Under the Snow' by Kate Messner and Christopher Silas Neal. This wonderful book, depicts where animals live in the winter.
Please ensure that your child is dressed to go outside - everyday! Hopefully, for our FAF, we will be able to go on our 'Winter Walk'. If it continues to be too cold outside for our walk, we will wait for a warmer day.
Today, we went to the gym for our Grade 5/6 science fair. Excellent work was presented, and everyone learned 'something' about science.

Monday, February 4 - Gymnastics

Calgary’s weather, unfortunately, will be taking a turn for the worse over the weekend.  Tuesday’s temperature is expected to be -20 without the wind chill.  With this kind of temperature, we would call this a ‘blue’ day, meaning, students are welcome to come into the school through their designated door as soon as they arrive each day.  Teachers will open the designated doors as students arrive starting at 8:30 am. Thankfully, later this week the weather will be warming up to seasonal winter temperatures.

This Wednesday, February 6 is Winter Walk Day. Please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather. If it's too cold outside on Wednesday, we will go for our Winter Walk later this week or wait for warmer weather.
