Thursday, September 28

In regards to our Terry Fox run tomorrow, please read yesterday's blog.
Please send a water bottle to school for your child to use during our Terry Fox Run.

Monday, Oct 2 - Letter A - Ryley, Jeffrey, Kipling, Phil

Every Wednesday, Kindergarten students will have the opportunity to choose two library books to bring home. Each child may have a maximum of two books out at a time.  You are welcome to keep your books for two weeks. Alternatively, your child's books are due on Tuesdays. We would really appreciate it if you could return your library books by the beginning of the week. This gives Mrs. Kidd time to generate a list of students who have returned their books, keeping their book(s) for two weeks, and which students have overdue books.

Fun times in Kindergarten!
Our Terry Fox practice run is going very well! Everyone has demonstrated the ability to improve on how many laps  they can 'jog'. I am using popsicle sticks for them to keep track of their laps. The last popsicle stick is colored so that they know it's their last lap. Afterwards, at the picnic tables, we count our popsicle sticks. We are all working on improving our 'personal best' number of laps.
At home, it's always helpful to practice counting sets of objects 1 through 10 with their pointing finger. You can add problem solving (I'm sure most of you are already doing this).
Thank-you for sending in your donations for Terry Fox. This Friday, from 10 AM onwards you are welcome to join us for our assembly. Kindergarten,  will run for Terry from approximately 10:30 to 11:00 AM. So far, I have 2 volunteers to assist with Kindergarten and more volunteers are always appreciated for the school wide run.
If your child is celebrating a birthday, I do have some spare gluten free snacks in my desk. Please remember to send birthday treats that are nut free. Alternatively, you are welcome to send in non edible treats.

Tuesday, September 19

We are learning our routines and I'm so impressed with everyone's ability to learn the classroom rules so quickly. We read a fabulous story about birthday parties, and that the most important thing to remember is our friends. The main character (a cat), who thought his friends had forgotten about him had a surprise birthday party.

In preparation for our Terry Fox run next week, we practiced jogging around the school field.
On a daily basis and weather permitting we will go outside for gym. So please remember to send your child to school dressed for the weather.

Monday, September 18

Today, you're child received their Parent Viewpoint. The Face-to-Face Conferences at this time of year provides an opportunity to meet with me to discuss learning goals for the school year.  The yellow Parent Viewpoint form will act as a guideline during your conferences. Please fill in you're viewpoint and bring it to you're Face to Face conference.

Booking Face-to-Face Conferences:  On Saturday, September 16, 2017 starting at 6 am we encourage you to go online to your My CBE Account to book your child(ren)’s conferences for a 15-minutes session either on Thursday, September 21 from 4 pm to 8 pm or Friday, September 22 from 8 am to 12 pm.  The online booking session closes at 12 noon on Thursday, September 21, 2017.

In addition to the Parent handbook I would like to advise you of the following:

1.    Just a reminder to send a small (1-2 items), healthy, NUT FREE snack for your child to enjoy at snack time. We have some students in our class with peanut and tree nut allergies, so please avoid sending snacks containing peanuts and other nut products. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
2.    For Birthdays you are welcome to send in healthy treats such as a nutritious cookie, fruit or vegetables. Nut free - Please! If possible, a gluten-free snack would also be appreciated. I will have a few gluten-free treats available for those students whose diet requires this.
3.    Indoor Velcro shoes that are suitable for Physical Education classes would be appreciated. P.E. classes will be daily for 20 to 30 minutes.
4.    On Friday, September 29 we are having our Terry Fox Run. This week, weather permitting, we will begin to  practice our running around the field for our Terry Fox run. Please ensure that your child wears outdoor running shoes to school. Further information will be available at a later date.
5.    If anyone would like to volunteer to coordinate Scholastic Book Orders please advise Mrs. Wilkens. We are looking forward to our parent volunteers joining us in the classroom soon!

Tomorrow is F.A.F. #2, so please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather. My plan is to continue exploring our four senses (not taste!) outside.  This exploration, will assist us in our observations of Whispering Woods.

Tuesday, September 12 - First Music Class

This morning we enjoyed going to gym and learning how to use the dots for our movement exercises.
The dots that are placed on the floor help us to learn about keeping a space around us. We are beginning to learn how to throw and catch a ball. Some students are already quite good at throwing and catching a ball with a partner. Keep practicing!

Our very first music class with Mr. O'Reilly was lots of fun. He showed us his electric guitar and read a story to us. Every Tuesday and Thursday, from 10:45 to 11:15 AM we will have our music class.

Tomorrow, Mrs. Kidd our librarian, will introduce herself and read a story to the Kindergarten class.
On Wednesday, Sept. 20 we will begin our library, book exchange.

Volunteers are always welcome in our Kindergarten class. Once we have our Room Parent, we will begin our Google Volunteer Calendar. In the meantime, if you have your security clearance you are more than welcome to volunteer. Just send me an email and I will add you in my calendar. We definitely, could use a volunteer for our Fresh Air Friday learning!

Thursday, September 7 F.A.F & Paperwork

I'm so very proud of our Kindergarten students! Today, they went to their first school assembly.

Tomorrow is our first, 'Fresh Air Friday' adventure in outdoor learning! Please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather. As it's going to be a warm, sunny day, your child will likely need a hat and some sunscreen. If needed, please apply sunscreen on you're child at home, prior to joining us at school. If you're child is allergic to bees and/or wasps please advise me via email. We will take precautions to avoid insect bites. I have a parent volunteer to assist us with F.A.F. #1,  which I am very thankful for!

Please ensure that your child brings a water bottle to school. It's important that your child stays hydrated. At this point in the school year, I am unable to send them independently for a drink at the water fountain. However, I usually incorporate a water break into our bathroom break. Today, paperwork was sent home in your child's backpack. All paperwork should be reviewed and filled out as per the directions. As this may be your first set of school paperwork to fill out, you are more than welcome to drop by the office for assistance. I may be able to assist you as well.

All paperwork is due back to the Kindergarten classroom by Tuesday, September 12.  We really appreciate your assistance with getting your paperwork back to school on time.

Thank-you!
