Wednesday, March 20 - Spring Is Here!

I'm looking forward to our Parent, Teacher, and Student conferences!

Your child will have some work to share with you. While you are here, please take a moment to look at our winter art, and writing project that are displayed outside the classroom.

Thank-you so very much for sharing your fantastic, and creative 100th day of Kindergarten projects. Please take your child's 100th Day of Kindergarten project home with you. Also, we have your child's Glass Mosaic Project that they created with Clay for Kids. These projects are fragile, and quite beautiful! After your conference appointment, we will have your child's project available for you to take home.

With our Little Green Thumbs garden already growing, we have the season of Spring in our classroom. After reading Jack and the Beanstalk, we planted some 'magic' Purple Peacock Beans. I mentioned to Kindergarten that if we can grow them in the classroom, then they must be magic😉
Mrs. Kidd and I are collaborating for our study of Fairy Tales. During library today, Mrs. Kidd introduced us to the Fairy Tale books that are available in our library. Every week, she will read a Fairy Tale to the class. For the next month or so, we are encouraging our students to check out at least one Fairy Tale book that they can read with their family. After Spring Break, we have some learning scheduled for Jack and the Beanstalk.

For our Home Reading Book Exchange, and classroom activities, we could really use your support! While we don't need a volunteer on a daily basis, it would be wonderful to have you in the classroom. Please check our Sign Up Genius account for a date that works for you.

Tuesday, March 12 - Numeracy

Our letter work is progressing nicely. Please ensure that your child reads their letter of the week booklets with you.
We are working on many of our math concepts. Representing the number 1 to 12 in different ways, such as a ten frame, tallies, drawings and dice. On three occasions, we have practiced estimating the number of Jellybeans in a jar. Everyone is improving on their ability to guess the number, guessing a higher or smaller number, using the 100 chart, and showing their work in  their Visual Journals.
Tomorrow, we are learning a new number game with our room five buddies.
Today, we had Treat Day.
I hope you are enjoying our warmer weather!

Sunday, March 3 - Update for this week

Letter of the Week Sharing:

    • March 4           Letter L- Kaylee, Landon, Marek
    • March 11         Letter F - Porter, Richard, Samuel, Yazmin
    • March 18         Letter J- Sebastian, Sihan, Juna, Zoe
    • Our Kindergarten students are having growth spurts! Please ensure that your child has two items for their snack, as well as some water or juice to drink. As for their indoor shoes, it may be time to think about checking if their shoes still fit. You are more than welcome to come into the school to check your child's shoes, or if we notice any tight fits we will do our best to let you you know.
    • Next week is Jungle Safari, where students enjoy a gymnastics challenge that involves working through gymnastic stations, that they have used before. Please ensure that your child is dressed  in comfortable clothes that they can move in, as well as no items that are overly loose. It is helpful if your child wears footless tights, and long hair is secured from their face.
    • A big thank-you to our Home Reading Book Exchange parent volunteers! I have read with most of our students, however we do have a few more students that I would like to check. If your child does not have an updated reading level or sticker on their tracking sheet, please ensure that you return your Home Reading books this week.
    • Save the Date:  March 21 and 22, 2019 – Parent teacher interviews (formerly known as Face-to-Face Interviews).  An opportunity to book your child’s 15-minute interview takes place starting Saturday, March 16 at 6 am via your My CBE / PowerSchool Account.
