Tuesday, January 30

In gymnastics, we are learning how to safely move around the mats and on the equipment. We are working on using and strengthening our core by rolling like a hot dog, and not falling off the bun as we roll down the mat! Our dead bug and V-sit balances are improving. Tomorrow, I will introduce the letter T position, which we hold after a movement sequence.
Our letter O booklets will be coming home tomorrow. Please read these booklets with your child. It's always a good idea to practice saying their letter of the week words in a sentence. Thank-you for returning your Home Reading to be exchanged. Today, I was unable to exchange everyone's books.  Sometimes, you may need to wait a day or two for books to be exchanged. In order to monitor your child's reading level, I will begin to read with your child.
Please check last Friday's blog, for Valentine's Day and other important information.
Wed. Jan 30 and Friday, Feb. 2  - for our Little Green Thumbs garden, we're still looking for a volunteer to assist us with planting seeds. No planting experience is needed!

Yoga mats will be provided by our Yoga in Residence instructor. You are more than welcome to volunteer for these activities.
Wednesday, February 14 - Friendship Party -For your child's Valentines exchange, please send in Valentines for 21 students with your child's name on it. As I am unable to assist each child with reading their Valentines, please do not address your child's Valentines to individual students. I will be providing a special treat for snack! You are welcome to send in your child's usual snack, just send in less food:) Two to Three, volunteers would be appreciated for this event.

Wednesday, January 24

Today, we began to write sentences in our journals. I have sentence starters that my students can copy or they can sound out sentences and words. In our sentences, we also used some of this week's letter Gg words.  Everyone's drawings are beginning to show more detail and color.
I hope you are enjoying your Home Reading. If you have any questions, please email me.
Tomorrow, you will receive your child's report card. The report card is your copy to keep. Next week, please return your signed, report card envelope. By doing so, you are confirming that you did receive your child's report card, and in June, we would like to reuse your envelope.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child's report card, you are more than welcome to email me.

Monday, January 22 - Letter G Day

Today, we learned the hard and soft sound of the letter G. Students, practiced starting from the top to print their letters.  If you have some time, it's helpful to practice printing the letter Gg and finding things that start with our  letter of he week.
Tomorrow, is Room 3's (That's Us!) turn to host the monthly, Treat Day. Please remember to send in 25 cents for your child to purchase their treat.
This will be our second week of Volleyball. With a partner, Kindergarten students are learning to throw the ball with 2 hands over the net to their partner, who is catching it, either in the air or after one or more bounces. Excellent progress in throwing and catching the volleyballs is evident!

Thursday, January 18

Today, we had a surprise fire drill. Kindergarten students responded quite well, lined up quietly and walked outside to our meeting place.
Tomorrow, for F.A.F. we are planning on going outside at 8:45 A.M. We are going for a walk in Whispering Woods, to generate some questions about the woods. Afterwards, we will share our questions for a chart about our wonderings.
Tomorrow, we are looking forward to our Drumming presentation!

Tuesday, January 16 - Super Tomato Day!

Today, was Super Tomato Day! From our garden, we ate our tomatoes that were ripe. I had some organic tomatoes from the store to try as well. Almost everyone, tried a tomato and some students ate several tomatoes.
Our drumming lessons are extremely fun! I wish you could watch everyone's faces as they learn about drumming, rhyming, patterns, and 'Goon', 'Doon'! The looks of wonder, fun and the joking that goes on is quite funny! Hopefully, on Friday, January 19, from 11:00 AM to approximately 11:45 AM, you will be able to attend our drumming presentation.

Thursday, January 11

Tomorrow, the weather is not looking very promising for our outdoor F.A.F. learning.
Today, and likely tomorrow will be a 'Blue' day. A 'Blue' day is when the temperature is -19 degrees, Celsius (including windchill). On 'Blue' days, you are welcome to bring your child indoors to wait for their day to start. At 8:30 A.M., for the morning drop off, I'll try to be at the Kindergarten Door to let you in. Alternatively, you are welcome to use the front doors. Children who arrive early are welcome to remove their snow clothes and wait in the Learning Commons for their day to begin. At pick-up time, instead of waiting outside you are welcome to join us indoors.
Please stay warm and safe!

Today, at the Coffin Cares assembly some of our students received recognition for friendship and kindness. Each month, we will add to our list of Kindergarten students who will be recognized at our Coffin Cares Assemblies.

On Friday, January 19 at 11:00 A.M. you are welcome to join us in the gym for Dr. Coffin's  drumming performance. In order to accommodate this performance, we would like to end Kindergarten at approximately 11:45 A.M.  If you would like to pick up your child at our regular time, please email me.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!
I hope you enjoyed a restful and fun holiday!
Today, we learned how to print upper and lowercase letter Mm. I sent home a worksheet (letters S,A,T, I,P and N)  for the students to work on at home. These letters, we have covered in class and have continued to work on at school. Some students, may need a reminder about these letters and their letter sounds. For Kindergarten students, vowels are developmentally difficult. Therefore, identifying the letter name and not the short vowel sound is age appropriate. Usually, short vowel sounds, develop in grade one. During your reading time at home, it's a great idea to review the letters that we have learned and continue to learn at school. If any of these letters or the letters we have covered to date, are in your child's first name, I encourage your child to use the lowercase letters.
i.e.: Sam or CLaire
Letters covered to date: S,A,T, I, P, C, K, E, H, R, M
