Thank-you for returning your Festive Evening, letters. This year, we have a new entertainment format. Each class, will sing a Christmas song or recite a poem. Please don't worry if you are unable to attend our Festive Evening. If your you and your family can attend that's fine, if not that's okay as well.
Coji Robots have become a very exciting center. Each robot is paired with an ipad app. Kindergarten students are learning to 'drive' and 'macro code' their robots. Additionally, it's exciting to observe everyone problem solve, and learning to share a very cool robot!
By snack time, some students are rather hungry. If you would like to send a second snack to school, you are welcome to do so.

Randy Bottle

This morning Elder, Randy Bottle (Saa- kokoto) visited Kindergarten. Saa- kokoto told them a wonderful story about a little boy who was teased about a scar on his face. The boy visited the Sun and the Moon and their son (a star). Please ask your child what they learned from the story.

Tomorrow, is Treat Day, please remember to send 25 cents to school.

Friday, November 4

Yesterday, we toured the school reading room numbers, signs and learning about the school. We visited room 7, and observed the Grade 5/6's learning. This was very important, as many students were wondering why we are learning our numbers and our letters.
Please on a daily basis, send your child to school prepared to go outside. Yesterday, we went outside for some 'Fresh Air Thursday' learning.

Tuesday, November 21

Tomorrow, November 22 - Wear a Mustache Day for Spirit Day
                                         - Please do not draw a mustache on your face and I will pick a few extras
In Gym class, we are learning how to play Circle Dodge Ball. I have noted quite an amazing improvement in everyone's rolling and aiming skills. Sometimes, we end up with too many students in the middle! Which is rather cute!
Today, I introduced a tag game called,  "Wild Horses". Whenever a cowgirl or a cowboy tags a wild horse, the horse must place their hands in a hoop (corral) and kick up their hooves (both heels) in the air 3 times.
Tomorrow, I am introducing our 2 Coji Robots, and a quick look at the Coji app on our ipads. This should be very interesting, and all of us will be learning some programming skills :)
We have reviewed the numbers 0 to 6. The numbers 7 to 10 will follow.
Keep up the good work!

Wednesday, November 15

I'm very impressed with how Kindergarten is learning to print their letters! Their letter sounds are also developing. I have begun to teach Kindergarten how to print their numbers 1 to 5. I use a rhyme for each letter. I will be sending home a copy of  the number rhymes, for you to refer to at home.
With the assistance of our room 4 and 5 buddies, we are learning how to sign in to the library, desktops. Your child is learning to read their CBE student I.D. numbers, as their username. Everyone has the same password, which we are also learning to read and spell. Room 5 buddies are available to assist us with computers on Wednesdays and Room 4 on Thursdays. Therefore our schedule for computers will be either on a Wednesday or Thursday. Coming soon we will be logging onto Mathletics! Once we have tried Mathletics at school, you will receive your child's username and password for you to access Mathletics at home.

Remembrance Day Assembly

Today, Kindergarten opened our Remembrance Day assembly by singing our national anthem. They did an excellent job of singing our anthem, and respecting the solemn nature of our assembly.

Our letter of the week sharing, (please refer to yesterday's blog for updated letter sharing) is rescheduled for Tuesday. On Monday, Randy Bottle, a Blackfoot Elder will be introducing the Blackfoot culture to Kindergarten.

Conference booking begins on Saturday, Nov. 11 morning. I am looking forward to meeting with you and your child. During our conferences, I'm planning on sharing your child's Early Years Evaluation with you. Please remember, that if I have any serious concerns with your child's report I would have contacted you by now.

Additionally, I am so very thankful for your support.

Monday, October 2

Saroja Solayappan, Karthik's mom has kindly offered to coordinate our scholastic book orders. Scholastic order forms went out today. All orders are due this Friday, October 6th. Alternatively, you can place your orders online.
This is a great way to discover books for your family, and to raise funds for our Kindergarten class.

Our weather has changed to winter! It was great to see everyone dressed for the weather.

Library books are due tomorrow - Tuesday, Oct. 3 - unless you would like to keep them for a second week.

Thursday, September 28

In regards to our Terry Fox run tomorrow, please read yesterday's blog.
Please send a water bottle to school for your child to use during our Terry Fox Run.

Monday, Oct 2 - Letter A - Ryley, Jeffrey, Kipling, Phil

Every Wednesday, Kindergarten students will have the opportunity to choose two library books to bring home. Each child may have a maximum of two books out at a time.  You are welcome to keep your books for two weeks. Alternatively, your child's books are due on Tuesdays. We would really appreciate it if you could return your library books by the beginning of the week. This gives Mrs. Kidd time to generate a list of students who have returned their books, keeping their book(s) for two weeks, and which students have overdue books.

Wednesday, September 27

Fun times in Kindergarten!
Our Terry Fox practice run is going very well! Everyone has demonstrated the ability to improve on how many laps  they can 'jog'. I am using popsicle sticks for them to keep track of their laps. The last popsicle stick is colored so that they know it's their last lap. Afterwards, at the picnic tables, we count our popsicle sticks. We are all working on improving our 'personal best' number of laps.
At home, it's always helpful to practice counting sets of objects 1 through 10 with their pointing finger. You can add problem solving (I'm sure most of you are already doing this).
Thank-you for sending in your donations for Terry Fox. This Friday, from 10 AM onwards you are welcome to join us for our assembly. Kindergarten,  will run for Terry from approximately 10:30 to 11:00 AM. So far, I have 2 volunteers to assist with Kindergarten and more volunteers are always appreciated for the school wide run.
If your child is celebrating a birthday, I do have some spare gluten free snacks in my desk. Please remember to send birthday treats that are nut free. Alternatively, you are welcome to send in non edible treats.
