Sunday, April 9

Last Friday, we went on a Spring walk. We found some sap on some tree buds and sprouting green grass! In regards to trees we are learning about, 'How do roots work'? We began an experiment to help us discover the answer to our question. On Monday, we are looking forward to finding out what happens when a stalk of celery that sits in red, blue or green colored water.

April 3, 2017 Spring is Here!

Reminder:  Family Dance this Friday!

The Annual Family Spring Dance & Fundraiser is this Friday night at the school from 6 pm to 8:30 pm.  Event tickets are per family and will be $10 at the door.  If you are bringing a cake for the wildly popular ‘cake walk’, please email our parent volunteer, Shannon King, at shannonking@shaw.ca .  To date, Shannon only has ten confirmed cakes or desserts.  Our theme is Canada’s 150th birthday.   Also, there’s still time to bring in a themed gift for your child’s homeroom’s gift basket that will be raffled off during the evening.  We ask that these items (or cash to purchase items) be brought to school by this Wednesday so volunteers can put these gift baskets together on Thursday.  Finally, we need more volunteers to help with various tasks such as raffle ticket shifts and working shifts at the cake walk.  Please look for the sign-up sheet on the School Council bulletin board located in the front foyer of the school, or contact our parent volunteer organizing this annual event, Amy Remmer at amywater@gmail.com.

This Wednesday, April 5, the 'Clay Lady' is coming to Kindergarten! From 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM your child will be learning how to create a clay project. Please ensure that your child does not wear their best or favorite clothes and that they arrive at school on time.

It's so very exciting to read with your child! Everyone, is really improving on their ability to read first letter sounds and sight words. Thank-you very much, for supporting this worth while initiative.

Next Tuesday, April 11 is our turn to provide the treats for 'Treat Day'. Please watch for a communication from Amy, for details about this classroom fundraiser.

Tuesday, March 22/Mathletics

Today, we had treat day. Everyone received a yummy treat.
For the month of March, tomorrow is our last day of classes.  On Thursday and Friday this week, there are no classes for students. March Break is next week, and our first day back is on Monday April 3. I hope you enjoy a fun and relaxing break.

Thank you for working on such incredible 100th Day of School projects. Tomorrow, we are planning on sending your child's project home.

In computer class, we are using a program called 'Mathletics'. This is an excellent program that would be very beneficial for your child's learning. 'Mathletics' is used by the grade 1 to 4 students in our school (I'm not too sure if the grade 5/6 classes use it). Therefore, it would be very helpful if you could practice logging on and utilizing this excellent, learning tool at home. If you have misplaced your child's password, please email me and I will email it to you. Or you can take a picture of your child's password card at school.
Additionally, a few parents have indicated that they are encountering difficulty in using this learning resource on their ipads. I spoke to Ms. Cowdy, our teacher tech support, and she suggested that you try the following link.

Please let me know if this link assists you in resolving this issue.

Friday, March 3

Today, in Whispering Woods we studied the parts of a tree. It was such a beautiful day to enjoy our learning  outside! We labeled a diagram of a tree: roots, trunk, bark, branches and leaves. Everyone, used their letter detective skills, to sound out the first letter sounds of our tree words. As biologists, we learned to label and color our tree pictures realistically. We certainly did not find any 'Bean Stocks' that Jack and his mom planted outside!
Our LGT garden is beginning to sprout. You are more than welcome to come inside the classroom to have a look at our sprouts.
Monday, March 6 - Letter F - Joel, Lawrence, Nicholas, Aiden
Enjoy the weekend!
